Moderation actions

This page explains the moderation actions available in YAWBDB.

⚠️ Warn

A warning records a moderation note for a member without removing them from the server.

Use warnings for minor issues, first offenses, or behavior that should be tracked.

🔇 Mute

A mute prevents a member from speaking for a duration.

Depending on your configuration, YAWBDB may use:

• Discord native timeout
• A configured mute role

Discord native timeouts have platform limits, so long or permanent mutes may require a role-based mute setup.

🔊 Unmute

Unmute removes an active mute or timeout.

Use this when a mute expires manually, was applied by mistake, or an appeal is accepted.

👢 Kick

Kick removes a member from the server.

The user can rejoin if they have a valid invite.

Use kicks for serious but not permanent removals.

🔨 Ban

Ban removes a user from the server and prevents them from rejoining.

Bans can include optional message purge behavior and may be temporary or permanent depending on configuration.

🔓 Unban

Unban removes an active ban.

The user can rejoin if they receive or still have a valid invite.

🧹 Softban

Softban bans a user and immediately unbans them.

This is often used to remove recent messages without permanently banning the user.

🔓 Lift or remove sanction

Active sanctions can be lifted or removed from the moderation history when allowed.

Depending on the sanction type, this may also apply a Discord action such as unban or unmute.

⚖️ Appeal

A sanction may create an appeal link.

Appeals let users submit a request for staff review.

💡 Best practices

• Use the least severe action that solves the problem.
• Always include a reason.
• Use temporary sanctions when appropriate.
• Keep a clear moderation log.
• Review history before escalating.
